Kevin Rogers Kevin grew up in Bassett, Virginia, in a large extended family. The deaths of several family members caused him to wrestle with matters of life and death and eternity at an early age. Though he attended church all the way through high school, he was a stranger to true faith in Jesus Christ. Amidst all the sensuality of the college environment, God awakened Kevin to the truth that these pleasures would last only for a lifetime. As he read for himself through the Gospels and the words of Jesus, he came to see that his life was one of sin, but also that Jesus loved him in spite of that, and had died so that he might be forgiven and have eternal life. Kevin marks his conversion to that December of 1996, when he put his trust in Jesus Christ to forgive him for his sins and committed to following Him. Compelled by the joy he had in Jesus, and out of a desire to help others experience this same joy, Kevin felt led to attend Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he graduated in 2004. He then moved to Richmond and started attending WEBC. Kevin became an elder in the summer of 2005 and married his wife Talona—whom he met at WEBC!—in June of 2006. They now have two sons, Beckett and Paxtyn. In 2012, WEBC commissioned its founding pastor and his family to take the good news of Christ to the nations and affirmed Kevin as the church's next pastor. Compelled still by the joy that he has in Christ, Kevin finds it deeply satisfying to serve as a pastor and a worker for the church's joy (2 Corinthians 1:24), as well as to proclaim the good news to those who don't know Christ. * Spending time with his family (immensely!), "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, 'The righteous shall live by faith.'" Romans 1:16-17 |

Matt's journey with the Lord Jesus began at age 4, and he was baptized at 14. While attending a Christian college, God challenged Matt to take his faith to a deeper level. At age 19, after wrestling with doubts about his salvation, Matt made a firm decision to follow Christ and sealed that decision a few years later by being re-baptized. Matt began serving as the WEBC praise and worship leader in January 2002. He says it has been exciting to be involved in a new church plant almost from the start, and that God continues to enable him for the task, challenging him to love others more in the process. In 2002, Matt also married his “sweetie,” Jenny Schwartz. In 2006 they were blessed with a little girl. Then in 2009, God gave them a son. Both Matt and his wife have each lived in the Richmond area for over 30 years. During the week, Matt has been working in printing, marketing, and graphic design since 1994. God called Derek to saving faith in Jesus Christ after after saving his life in a college auto accident. Derek married Judy in 2003 and they have 3 children, Bethany, Jeremy, and Katelyn. In his spare time, he practices law. One of Derek's favorite books of the Bible is Isaiah. Though language can never fully capture the character and nature of the almighty, triune God, the rich imagery of Isaiah's poetry cannot help but stir the mind, heart, and soul to worship. In his free time, Derek enjoys reading Christian biographies such as Adoniram Judson, Jonathan Edwards, or Jim Eliot. He is inspired by such men who have both poured out their lives "like a drink offering," and also have "run the race with endurance." Matt Burton Matt grew up attending church but truly came to know the Lord when he was 15. In 2001, Matt married the love of his life, Smokey and in 2008 they welcomed their beautiful daughter Mia into the world. Matt was called to live a life of service and has been blessed in his job as a teacher in Louisa County working with troubled and at-risk students. In his spare time Matt enjoys playing and writing music. He plays several instruments including guitar, bass guitar, drums and piano. He is involved with several Christian bands in the Richmond area and plays drums for the West End Baptist Church praise band. He also enjoys playing and watching sports. Bill Hogg Having grown up in a rather traditional church-going family in rural North Louisiana, Bill was generally in church as often as it was open. At the age of twelve, he came to a realization of his own sin and the need for a savior in Jesus Christ. He was for many years involved in various organizations and activities that allowed his personal faith to grow. However, during college, Bill allowed sensual attractions of the world to gradually draw him away from his commitment to be a faithful follower of Christ. Thankfully God was faithful to his calling. Bill later became involved in a men’s discipleship group that lovingly confronted him and drew him back to the Father. Over the past thirty years, Bill has continued to be involved in some form of men’s discipleship ministry. There he has been able to build into men’s lives while at the same time allowing these men and the Word to build into his. Some of his longest and deepest relationships have developed from these men’s small groups. Bill has stated that the most wonderful blessing in his life is the bride of his youth, Rebecca. They celebrated forty-one years of marriage in the summer of 2011. A close second is the five grandchildren that their son, daughter and their spouses have blessed them with. Bill’s vocational opportunity to work and live overseas has given him a definite heart for the nations. Whether in the U.S. or other countries, his desire is for the “peoples of the world” to know Jesus Christ as their savior. Hobbies and Interests: Bill likes hunting, fishing and hiking as well as being a spectator at college football and basketball games. Brandon Bishop Brandon grew up in a small town in Virginia attending church with his family. There were surely bumps and roadblocks along his journey to authentic faith in Jesus Christ. However, during his early high school years, Brandon put his faith in Jesus. After some tough times in his walk with the Lord, God brought Brandon and his wife into fellowship with a body of true believers at West End Baptist Church. It was through WEBC that God reignited a passion for communing with God, walking in truth and obedience, studying the Bible and fellowshipping with believers. Brandon has been married to the love of his life, Carrie, since 2004. They were baptized together at WEBC in September of 2008. Brandon and Carrie have two sons, ages 2 and 3. Brandon enjoys being a husband and dad, fishing and the outdoors with his family and friends, kayaking, theology, biblical manhood studies, eating good food, traveling and music. "...as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us." Psalm 103:12 "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." Proverbs 17:17 "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." Mark 1:15 "Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate."
