Weekly Update - November 28, 2021

Our New Location

West End Manor Civic Association | 8600 Lakefront Dr. Richmond, VA 23294

| 11.28.21 |

This Sunday, John Brady will continue in our series in John’s Gospel. This week’s passage will be John 21:1-25 . Last week’s sermon can be heard here. If you’re planning to watch online check us out this week on Facebook Live Sunday morning at 10:30am

We want to encourage you to take a moment this week as you prepare for our time together on Sunday by reading and praying through the passages.

Consider thinking through these four questions as you read and pray.

  1. How can I adore God from this passage?

  2. What sin does this passage lead me to confess?

  3. How does this passage help me to thank Jesus?

  4. From this passage, in what ways can I ask God's Spirit to help me this week?

The elders are continuing to monitor the updates by the CDC and our Governor concerning precautions for our gatherings. At this time, our services will continue to be mask-optional. We will continue to provide updates if things change going forward.

We do ask that if you or anyone in your household has recently been ill or is currently experiencing symptoms of illness, please stay at home. By doing this, you will be loving others well and protecting the most vulnerable among us.

  • Please be mindful of the comfort levels of others during our gatherings.

  • Hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes will be stationed throughout the building

Weekly Resources

Here are some resources that our elders recommend checking out this week. Please feel free to use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

Think About Such Things: Whatever Is Excellent Paul doesn’t want these Philippian Christians to be overwhelmed and spiritually formed by the underbelly of Philippi. Instead, Paul tells them to think about the moral excellence and virtue they see around them—wherever they can find it. Since all truth is God’s truth, all excellence is God’s excellence too—the imago Dei is not lost. Excellence echoes.

Think About Such Things: Whatever Is Praiseworthy For better and for worse, in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health—especially in times of pandemic, instability, loss, and even death—it is praiseworthy that the promises of God are true yesterday, today, and forever. Not one promise is threatened in the slightest by circumstance or tragedy.

Practicing ConfessionWe confess our need for Jesus. We need his atoning work. We need his death. We need his sacrifice. We need his current intercession and advocacy for us. What’s more, confessing sin tears down the idol of self—lit humbles us both before God, and before other people. Milton Vincent deals with this in his gospel primer: “Why would anyone be shocked to hear of my struggles with past and present sin when the Cross has already told them I am a desperately sinful person?”
