Weekly Update - October 31, 2021

Our New Location

West End Manor Civic Association | 8600 Lakefront Dr. Richmond, VA 23294

| 10.31.21 |

This Sunday, Matt Smethrust, pastor of River City Baptist Church will be preaching a message titled God Is Unlike You (And That’s Great News) . This week’s passage will be Isaiah 55 . Last week’s sermon can be heard here. If you’re planning to watch online check us out this week on Facebook Live Sunday morning at 10:30am

We want to encourage you to take a moment this week as you prepare for our time together on Sunday by reading and praying through the passages.

Consider thinking through these four questions as you read and pray.

  1. How can I adore God from this passage?

  2. What sin does this passage lead me to confess?

  3. How does this passage help me to thank Jesus?

  4. From this passage, in what ways can I ask God's Spirit to help me this week?

The elders are continuing to monitor the updates by the CDC and our Governor concerning precautions for our gatherings. At this time, our services will continue to be mask-optional. We will continue to provide updates if things change going forward.

We do ask that if you or anyone in your household has recently been ill or is currently experiencing symptoms of illness, please stay at home. By doing this, you will be loving others well and protecting the most vulnerable among us.

  • Please be mindful of the comfort levels of others during our gatherings.

  • Hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes will be stationed throughout the building

Join us, THIS SATURDAY MORNING at 9am, we will be meeting in the WEMCA parking lot to hang fliers for The Great Candy Giveaway on doors in the neighborhood.

Weekly Resources

Here are some resources that our elders recommend checking out this week. Please feel free to use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

Did Jesus Have A Fallen Human Nature? One thing is certain and beyond debate. Jesus never committed an act of sin. The sinless life of Jesus is absolutely essential for his capacity to serve as our sacrificial substitute, an atoning death in which he was not dying for his own transgressions but for ours

What Spooks You? Three times in his famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus invokes hell. He says, “If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell” (Matt 5:29). Pause for a second and take in the gory image Jesus just painted. Like the author of a grisly horror movie, Jesus describes an eye being pulled out of its socket and thrown to the ground. He paints the disturbing picture and then says that that macabre scene is far better than what hell will be.

Sister, God Sees You God sees the single woman celebrating at a friend’s wedding, lonely and longing for her own. God sees the wife who suffers abuse at her husband’s hand, feeling devoid of ways to address it. God sees the youth abused by the authorities in her life. God sees the single mom overwhelmed by the needs of her children and herself. God sees us when we are depleted, undone, and afraid.
