Weekly Update - January 9, 2022

Our New Location

This Sunday, Rayshawn Graves will continue in our series titled “Gentle & Lowly”. This week’s passage will be Exodus 34:6-7 . Last week’s sermon can be heard here. If you’re planning to watch online check us out this week on Facebook Live Sunday morning at 10:30am

We want to encourage you to take a moment this week as you prepare for our time together on Sunday by reading and praying through the passages.

Consider thinking through these four questions as you read and pray.

  1. How can I adore God from this passage?

  2. What sin does this passage lead me to confess?

  3. How does this passage help me to thank Jesus?

  4. From this passage, in what ways can I ask God's Spirit to help me this week?

The elders are continuing to monitor the updates by the CDC and our Governor concerning precautions for our gatherings. At this time, our services will continue to be mask-optional. We will continue to provide updates if things change going forward.

We do ask that if you or anyone in your household has recently been ill or is currently experiencing symptoms of illness, please stay at home. By doing this, you will be loving others well and protecting the most vulnerable among us.

  • Please be mindful of the comfort levels of others during our gatherings.

  • Hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes will be stationed throughout the building

Weekly Resources

Here are some resources that our elders recommend checking out this week. Please feel free to use them as discipleship opportunities to discuss with one another.

Does God Forget Our Sins? God certainly punishes all sin, but if we are in Christ, that wrath falls on him. The cross strikingly displays, in harmony, aspects of the divine character that might otherwise appear irreconcilable. What relentless justice and bountiful mercy! How astonishing his wrath and how unimaginable his love!

New Years Habits: Project Self or Conformity to Christ Here’s the problem: when followers of Jesus pursue Project Self, they often co-opt the spiritual practices of the church for personal enhancement. And when spiritual practices are subsumed under Project Self, they end up serving a very different purpose from their original intent—obedience to Christ’s commands and conformity to his image. The ultimate purpose of all spiritual practices—and indeed all of life—is to obey and become more like Jesus.

No False Worship of The True God One way that our society makes a false image of God is to picture him as an evolving deity who is continually updating his moral law to conform with the latest trends in American society. We envision him as a God who is OK with a consequentialist ethic (an ethic in which the end justifies the means).
